About Mina

Mina was born in Seoul, Korea, and grew up in Dubai, U.A.E., and Jakarta, Indonesia. Moving to the United States, she earned her B.A. in Sociology from Brown University and her dual Ph.D. in Business and Sociology from the University of Michigan, earning nationally the Best Dissertation Award in her field from the Academy of Management as well as awards from the National Science Foundation and the Kauffman Foundation.

Mina spent the next several years as an entrepreneurship professor at the University of Washington Foster School of Business and as Visiting Faculty Fellow at Stanford University, teaching Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior and Corporate Strategy to executives, doctoral students, MBA students and undergraduates while researching entrepreneurship, social networks and economic development.

The Launch of Lulabop

The two events that launched it all

Birth of Her First Child

The first was the birth of her first child and the subsequent realization that going anywhere with a baby is hard. Many times when strolling or traveling with her baby and especially when changing him in a public restroom, Mina wished she had an extra hand to hold her (and her baby’s) stuff.

Summit of Mt. Rainier

The second was her summit of Mt. Rainier, which came only months after the birth of her baby. Logging countless miles and vertical feet during her training sessions with her wet, muddy backpack bouncing on her body, she wished that she could have hung up her backpack on a tree branch during breaks so that its bottom would not get so dirty and wet in the first place. Again, she needed an extra hand to hold her stuff! After searching the market unsuccessfully for something that would work well for either (or even better, both) situations, Mina decided to create her own product line to help families and outdoor enthusiasts worry less about their stuff so they can focus more on what they love to do. Lulabop was born.

The New Mission

Now having led two highly successful crowdfunding campaigns and placed her products at retailers around the world (including REI, Brookstone and Big 5 Sports Goods), Mina has a new mission beyond continuing to lead Lulabop in developing new innovative products that make life easier and better. As a mom and interacting with many other moms, Mina realized that every mom (or nearly every mom) has a product idea in her head that will make her life (and the lives of others) more convenient. Sadly, hardly any of these moms bring their ideas to market. Mina’s mission is to change this. Mina and Lulabop welcome product ideas from moms and women so that they can help turn the ideas into products.

Get in touch! I’d love to hear your ideas.

Other interests

AND YES! Mina has other interests! Mina’s favorite activities are Crossfit, traveling, playing with her kids Kai and Mila, and wine-tasting with her husband Mark (without her kids!).
